SWIMMING
David Davies predicted a bright future for the Great North Swim after the Olympic medallist claimed victory in the inaugural event at Lake Windermere. The 23-year-old won a silver medal in the men's marathon 10 kilometre open water event in Beijing behind gold medal winner Maarten van der Weijden. But it was Davies who came out on top over the one-mile course in what was the UK's largest open water event which contained a field of over 2,200 swimmers of all ages, standards and experiences.
PARALYMPICS
Having surpassed UK Sport's pre-Games target by moving to 41 golds on day eight, silver was the order of the day as Miller and swimmers Jim Anderson, Robert Welbourn and Fran Williamson finished second, while Greaves and Natalie Jones, in the pool, won bronze.
