Great Britain claimed nine medals and Missy Franklin became the first woman to set a new world record since performance-enhancing suits were banned on the first day of racing at the FINA World Cup in Berlin. European champions Fran Halsall and Lizzie Simmonds both won two medals apiece with the latter third in the 200 metres backstroke in which Franklin, just 16, lowered Shiho Sakai's two-year short-course mark. While Ryan Lochte and Sun Yang have set new world records, the former in both long (50m) and short course (25m), American Franklin becomes the first woman to do so as she warms up for what is set to be a storming first Olympics in London next summer.
