MOTOR RACING
Allan McNish came tantalisingly close to a fourth
successive Petit Le Mans victory as torrential rain brought the
annual event to an early end. McNish and co-driver Dindo Capello led
the 1,000-mile race in their Audi R15 TDi for the opening four hours
following a superb first lap from the Scot after starting from third
on the grid.
ATHLETICS
Britain's Andy Baddeley won the Fifth Avenue Mile but
compatriot Lisa Dobriskey was denied a successful defence of her

Lalang on the line to win in three minutes 51.8 seconds.
ARCHERY

CYCLING
Briton Nicole Cooke's defence of the women's World
Championship road race title ended in the most dispiriting fashion on
Saturday as she withdrew midway through the event in Mendrisio.
Cooke, who has been struggling with the after-effects of a virus, was
well off the pace when she pulled out 45 miles in, leaving compatriot
Emma Pooley to carry the flag for Team GB. |
