ATHLETICS
Sabrina Mockenhaupt delivered a gutsy performance to
win the Cologne Marathon in a time of two hours 30 minutes 12
seconds, just six weeks after competing at the World Championships.
With the help of pacemakers' Mockenhaupt had been aiming for the
12-year-old course record of 2:27:27, but weather conditions and
tiredness after her exertions in Berlin wrecked the attempt.
RALLYING
Frenchman Sebastien Loeb won the Rally de Espana on
Sunday to ensure his fight for a sixth World Rally Championship title
will go to the final round. It was Loeb's fifth consecutive win on
the all-asphalt Spanish round of the series, the 53rd of his
impressive WRC career and his sixth of the current campaign.
MOTORCYCLING
Jorge Lorenzo took a chunk out of team-mate Valentino
Rossi's MotoGP title lead with victory at Estoril on Sunday. Rossi
could only manage fourth place on his Fiat Yamaha, despite starting
second, allowing Lorenzo to cut the gap at the top of the standings
to 18 points. Lorenzo won the race from pole, pulling immediately
away from Rossi and the rest of the field. |
