1932: Arsenal manager Herbert Chapman persuaded London
Transport to change the name of the proposed new underground station
close to Highbury from Gillespie Road to Arsenal.
1971: Her Royal Highness Princess Anne was voted
Sportswoman of the Year by the British Sportswriters Association,
following her win on Doublet in the European Three-Day Event at Burghley.
2002: Mick McCarthy quit as Republic of Ireland manager.
2003: Former England and Arsenal defender Tony Adams
was appointed manager of Wycombe.
2004: Chelsea striker Adrian Mutu was suspended for
seven months and fined £20,000 following a Football Association
disciplinary hearing into his failed drugs test.
2006: Australia won the ICC Champions Trophy for the
first time, beating holders West Indies by eight wickets in a
rain-affected final in Mumbai. |
