1999: St Helens were crowned Super League champions after beating Bradford Bulls 8-6 in the Grand Final at Old Trafford.
2004: England beat Wales 2-0 in their World Cup qualifier at Old Trafford but the win was marred by a booking and a hairline rib fracture for captain David Beckham, who later admits deliberately earning his yellow card to ensure suspension for the following week's qualifier against Azerbaijan.
2005: Steven Gerrard was ruled out of England's World Cup group decider against Poland with a shin injury.
2006: Snooker professional Paul Hunter, who won three Wembley Masters titles, died at the age of 27 after a battle with cancer.

England shooter Rachel Dunn made netball history at the Co-operative World Netball Series in Manchester on Friday afternoon by becoming the first player to ever score four points with one goal as the national side beat Samoa 36-16.
