Britain's Jenny Meadows started her campaign to win
the the World Indoor Championships 800 metres gold medal with an
impressive victory in her heat in Doha on Thursday morning. Meadows
confidently hit the front after 100 metres and went on to post a very
quick time, the fastest of the qualifying rounds, of two minutes,
0.39 seconds.
HOCKEY
England's hopes of adding the World Cup to their
European crown were dashed by a 4-1 semi-final defeat against holders
and Olympic champions Germany in New Delhi. Their first world-level
last-four appearance since losing the 1986 World Cup final to
Australia in Willesden began badly and they never recovered. |
