MOTORCYCLING
Carlos Checa extended his lead in the World Superbike Championship to 19 points after third and first places in the two races at Donington Park. The Althea Ducati rider fought his way up to third in race one and then won second time out as reigning champion Max Biaggi was disqualified from race two. The Alitalia Aprilia rider was excluded for jumping the start and dropped to fourth in the overall points standings. Yamaha rider Marco Melandri moved up to second in the standings after winning the first race and taking a fighting second in race two.
RALLYING
Sebastien Ogier bounced back from the disappointment of his mistake in Mexico by claiming his first win of the season on the Rally of Portugal. The French Citroen driver had missed out on a win last time out when a crash on the last stage gifted the 25 points to his team-mate Sebastien Loeb. But Ogier made no such mistake on Sunday as he comfortably retained the handy lead he held over world champion Loeb overnight to eventually prevail by 31.8 seconds.
