On This Day in Sport (20 March 2010):

1898: The first recorded international cross-country race took place at Ville d'Avray near Paris. England beat the hosts over a nine-mile course.
1926: Scotland beat England at Twickenham for the first time. The score was 17-9, and they went on to share that season's Five Nations championship with Ireland.
1990: Top Russian goalkeeper Lev Yashin died at the age of 60. He won 78 Soviet Union caps between 1952 and 1972.
1992: Aldershot FC, declared bankrupt in the high court on March 18, played their last Football League game and lost 2-0 away to Cardiff. The club was the first since Accrington Stanley in 1962 to withdraw from the League during the season.
2005: Rangers won the CIS Cup after a 5-1 victory over Motherwell, with Greek defender Sotirios Kyrgiakos scoring twice and other goals coming from Maurice Ross, Fernando Ricksen and Nacho Novo.
