1902: 25 people died at Ibrox when part of the
temporary wooden stand collapsed during a Scotland v England international.
1915: Jack Johnson, the first black world heavyweight
champion, lost his title to Jess Willard when he was knocked out in
the 26th round of their 45-round fight.
1930: England scored a then-record 849 against the
West Indies in Kingston, Jamaica, thanks largely to 325 from Andrew Sandham.
1947: Rangers beat Aberdeen 4-0 to win the first
Scottish League Cup final.
2002: Micky Adams was confirmed as the new manager of
Leicester, succeeding Dave Bassett who moved into a director of
football role. The Foxes also changed their chairman with Martin
George replacing John Elsom.
2004: Everton striker Duncan Ferguson was banned for
four games and fined £10,000 after being found guilty of violent
conduct against Leicester midfielder Steffen Freund and making
gestures to the Walkers Stadium crowd.
2006: Swansea duo Lee Trundle and Alan Tate were
arrested by police and charged by the Football Association of Wales
after they carried a Welsh flag bearing the words 'f*** off, Cardiff'
and donned a T-shirt showing a cartoon of a man urinating on a
Cardiff number nine shirt after their Football League Trophy final win. |
