Zersenay Tadese fulfilled his pre-race promise and
broke the world record at the EDP Lisbon Half Marathon. The
28-year-old Eritrean struck 11 seconds from Sammy Wanjiru's
three-year-old previous best mark with a time of 58 minutes 22 seconds.
Britain's Mara Yamauchi
has won the New York half marathon. Yamauchi, using the event as a
final preparation before the Virgin London Marathon in five weeks'
time, claimed victory in a course record time of one hour nine
minutes 17 seconds.
Sylvester Teimet scorched to a lifetime best and
course record of two hours six minutes and 49 seconds to win the
Seoul International Marathon today. Teimet headed a Kenyan clean
sweep of the podium places ahead of Gilbert Kirwa and Paul Kirui, who
clocked times of 2hrs 6mins 59secs and 2:07:35 respectively.
MODERN PENTATHLON
Britain's David Atkinson finished 29th as he competed
in his first modern pentathlon World Cup final on Sunday in Cairo.
The 24-year-old from Liverpool was Britain's sole representative in
the men's final after qualifying from Friday's semis. Atkinson found
the fencing at his first World Cup final tough, winning 10 of his 35
bouts for 640 points and he followed that up with a swim of 2:25.06
to add a further 1060 points to his total. |
