Kenya's Mary Keitany enjoyed a commanding victory,
breaking away after 15 miles and clocking a time of 2:19:19 - almost
10 minutes quicker than her debut in New York last year. Defending
champion Liliya Shobukhova of Russia was second (2:20.15), with
Kenya's Edna Kiplagat third (2:20.46).In the men's race, Emmanuel
Mutai made it a Kenyan double with victory in a new course record of
2:04.40, beating the previous best by 30 seconds with the fifth
fastest time in history.
Britain's David Weir
celebrated 500 days to go until the start of the 2012 Paralympics
with an unprecedented fifth Virgin London Marathon wheelchair title
on Sunday.

Carlos Checa increased his lead in the Superbike World
Championship as the Althea Ducati rider took his fourth win of the
season from six races. Checa now leads on 132 points to the 89 of
Alitalia Aprilia's Max Biaggi, the reigning champion, after taking
the second race win at Assen in Holland.

Great Britain began their World Championship campaign
with a stunning 5-3 victory over pre-tournament favourites and hosts
