1933: The FA Cup final between Everton and Manchester
City was the first final where players had shirt numbers. The Everton
players were numbered 1-11, while City were numbered 12-22.
1967: Muhammad Ali was stripped of his world
heavyweight title for refusing to be drafted into the US Army on
religious grounds.
1970: Chelsea beat Leeds 2-1 after extra-time to win
the first replay of a Wembley FA Cup final.
1990: Stephen Hendry beat Jimmy White 18-12 to become
the youngest world snooker champion at the age of 21 years and 106 days.
2001: Henrik Larsson's 50th goal of the season and two
from Lubo Moravcik helped Celtic to a 3-0 victory at Rangers for
their first Ibrox success in six and a half years.
2002: Former Scotland boss Craig Brown took over as
the new manager of Preston.
2003: Former Chelsea and Manchester United goalkeeper
Mark Bosnich was banned for nine months by the Football Association
after a disciplinary hearing into his failed drugs test for cocaine.
2006: Chelsea won back-to-back Premier League titles
after beating Manchester United 3-0 at Stamford Bridge. United
striker Wayne Rooney suffered a broken metatarsal during the game but
was later named in England's World Cup squad despite not being fully fit.
2007: Sam Allardyce resigned as Bolton manager after
eight years at the club. He was later appointed as Newcastle boss but
endured an ill-fated reign which ended the following January. |
