EQUESTRIAN
Mary King ended her 11-year wait for a major four-star
title by winning the Rolex Kentucky competition in Lexington. The
49-year-old followed up a third-placed finish with Imperial Cavalier
at Badminton six days ago by dominating America's annual eventing
showpiece. King held a commanding overnight position, going into the
showjumping finale in first and second places with Kings Temptress
and Fernhill Urco, respectively.
MOTOR CYCLING
Dani Pedrosa finally ended Jorge Lorenzo's 100 per
cent record at Estoril with a victory which closed the gap at the top
of the MotoGP standings. Reigning champion Lorenzo had won all three
of his previous MotoGP visits to the Portuguese circuit from pole
position and looked set to again take his factory Yamaha to victory
for most of the race.
Tommy Hill bettered the Oulton Park lap record to put
his Swan Yamaha onto pole start for the Bank Holiday Monday second
round of the MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship at Oulton
Park. He clocked a best time of 1m 35.175secs around the Cheshire
circuit to be some 0.281secs ahead of his team-mate Michael Laverty
as he bids to extend his four-point lead in the title stakes. |
