GYMNASTICS
Daniel Keatings paid
tribute to his team-mates after becoming the first British male to
win a major championships title. The 20-year-old from Corby,
Northamptonshire, topped the podium in the pommel horse at the
European Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Birmingham, beating
Huntingdon club-mate Louis Smith into second place.
ATHLETICS
Russia's Liliya Shobukhova scuppered the ambitions of
Mara Yamauchi and several other big names to become the first Russian
woman to win the Virgin London Marathon on Sunday morning. After
making her debut at the distance and finishing third in London a year
ago, Shobukhova took the lead at the halfway point and went on to win
in a time of two hours 22 minutes.
Usain Bolt turned in a blistering final leg to give
Jamaica victory over the USA in the 4x100metres at the Penn Relays in
Philadelphia. The world record holder at 100m and 200m clocked 8.79
seconds in front of a meet-record 54,301 crowd as he anchored
Jamaica's Mario Forsythe, Yohan Blake and Marvin Anderson to a
meet-record 37.90 victory. |
