GYMNASTICS
Beth Tweddle was
energised by the support of the British crowd as she claimed double
gold on the final day of the European Artistic Gymnastics
Championships in Birmingham. Tweddle won uneven bars and floor gold
medals in Milan 12 months ago and successfully defended both titles
at the National Indoor Arena.
MOTOR RACING
Jorge Lorenzo came out on top in his scrap with fellow
Spaniard Dani Pedrosa to claim a thrilling victory at the Gran Premio
de Espana MotoGP event in Jerez. Fiat Yamaha rider Lorenzo passed
Pedrosa's Repsol Honda on the final lap to come home 0.543 seconds
ahead of his rival, with his team-mate Valentino Rossi in third.
Victory moved Lorenzo four points ahead of reigning world champion
Rossi at the top of the standings.
CYCLING
Caisse D'Epargne's Alejandro Valverde won the final
stage of the Tour de Romandie to claim the overall race win by just
over 11 seconds. The Spaniard comfortably overhauled Team Columbia
rider Michael Rogers' overall lead after the Australian finished over
30 seconds back in Sunday's 121.8km stretch starting and finishing in Sion. |
