12mins 45secs held by his fellow countryman Paul Kosgei. Gilbert
Kirwa, runner-up today, also beat the old record with a time of
1:11.58 while Ethiopia's Terefe Maregu prevented a Kenyan clean sweep
of the podium by finishing third in 1:13.16. Keitany, relishing the
perfect conditions, remained comfortably on world-record schedule
throughout the race, finishing in 1:19.53. Keitany's time decimated
the previous best of 1:22.13 set by Japan's Mizuki Noguchi in 2005.
