1886: The Football Association approved the giving of caps to players appearing in international matches.
1980: Paul Allen became the youngest man to date to play in an FA Cup final, aged 17 years and 256 days, as West Ham beat Arsenal 1-0.
2000: The FA fined Wimbledon £50,000 and captain Kenny Cunningham £5,000 for their part in a tunnel bust-up at Chelsea.
2004: Eddie Gray stepped down as Leeds manager but remained at the club in a consultancy role.
2006: The Premier League rejected Tottenham's request to replay their match at West Ham after the Spurs squad was struck down by food poisoning.

MOTOR CYCLING
Max Biaggi scored a superb double victory at Monza to close the gap on Britain's Leon Haslam in the Superbike World Championship title race. The Italian, who claimed pole for Aprilia on Saturday, underlined his class in front of his home fans by winning a keenly-fought opener before easing to victory in an attritional race two.
ATHLETICS
Kenyan duo Eliud Kiptanui and Helena Kirop both shattered the course records on their way to comfortable wins at the Volkswagen Prague Marathon on Sunday. Kiptanui, in only his second ever marathon, roared to a very impressive time of two hours five minutes 39 seconds, while Kirop lived up to her pre-race prediction winning in 2hr 25min 29sec.
