ATHLETICS
Tyson Gay was beaten by Jamaica's Steve Mullings in the 100 metres after the American dipped too early for the line at Saturday's Diamond League meeting in New York. Gay, undefeated over 100m last season, made a poor start and saw training partner Mullings streak away from him. He managed to reel Mullings in but his error with the line in sight allowed his rival to get the nod in a photo finish with a time of 10.26 seconds.
CYCLING
Spaniard Joaquim Rodriguez won the sixth stage of the Dauphine Libere, but Englishman Bradley Wiggins' sixth-placed finish was enough for him to retain overall lead of the race. Kathusha Team rider Rodriguez, 32, decided to break away from the leading pack with 5kilometres to go and he powered on to pick up only his second stage victory of the year.
