1975: Sebastian Coe ran his first sub-four-minute mile.
1979: Coe first broke the world mile record in Oslo, knocking 0.4 seconds off John Walker's four-year-old mark to set a new time of three minutes 48.95 seconds.
1998: Celtic named Jozef Venglos as their new manager, while Liverpool announced Gerard Houllier would share managerial duties with Roy Evans.
2000: Former England midfielder Paul Gascoigne agreed terms for a free transfer move from Middlesbrough to Premier League rivals Everton.
2003: David Seaman signed, aged 38, a one-year extension to his Arsenal contract.
2006: Wakefield parted company with coach Tony Smith by mutual consent.
2007: Newcastle insisted the club were not the subject of an investigation into corruption in football following police raids at St James' Park.
