Mo Farah completed an historic long-distance double at the European Championships in Barcelona on Saturday. Farah, who won the 10,000 metres title on the opening night of competition, added the 5,000m to become the first British athlete to do the double, and the first since Italy's Salvatore Antibo in 1990.
Dai Greene led Britain's second one-two of the European Championships in Barcelona, claiming gold in the 400 metres hurdles ahead of team-mate Rhys Williams on Saturday. Greene powered to a commanding victory in 48.12 seconds, lowering his own leading time in Europe this year with a new personal best. And Williams, son of former Wales rugby winger JJ Williams, survived misjudging he final hurdle to claim silver in 48.96secs, also a new personal best. Ukraine's Stanislav Melnykov took bronze.
Michael Rimmer claimed Britain's 12th medal of the European Championships with silver in the men's 800 metres in Barcelona on Saturday night. Rimmer looked on course to claim Britain's first gold in the event since Tom McKean in 1990 when he took over the lead with around 250 metres to go. The 24-year-old from Southport battled bravely down the home straight but was finally overtaken by Poland's Marcin Lewandowski just metres from the line.
