ATHLETICS
Yelena Isinbayeva set her 23rd world pole vault record
when jumping five metres four centimetres with her third attempt at
the height. The 26-year-old Russian added a centimetre to the
performance she achieved at the Rome Golden League meeting on July
11th and it was her 13th record outdoors. Isinbayeva display
suggested she will be an odds-on favourite to defend her Olympic
title in Beijing when the Games track and field programme gets
underway in 16 days time.
Asafa Powell with his third successive 100m win in a
week lowered his season's best to a superb 9.82sec ahead of Darvis
Patton and Nesta Carter who clocked 9.98sec and 10.02sec. |
