On This Day in Sport (14 September 2011):

1868: The 17-year-old Tom Morris registered the first hole-in-one in the Open when he aced the 166-yard eighth hole at Prestwick. Tom went on to beat his father, Old Tom, by three strokes and become the youngest winner of the championship.
1891: Wolves' John Heath scored the first penalty in the Football League, netting against Accrington.
1905: The Isle of Man RAC Tourist Trophy, the oldest surviving motorcar race in the world, was first contested.
1955: Kidderminster Harriers and Brierley Hill Alliance became the first sides to play an FA Cup tie under floodlights.
1963: George Best made his debut for Manchester United in a 1-0 win over West Brom at Old Trafford.
2003: Paula Radcliffe broke the world five kilometre road record, winning the Flora Light Women's Challenge at Hyde Park in London with a time of 14 minutes 51 seconds, bettering the old mark by three seconds.

CYCLING
Lars Boom led home a Rabobank one-two on stage three of the Tour of Britain in Stoke-on-Trent to take the overall lead from stage one winner Mark Cavendish (HTC-Highroad). The Dutchman won a bunch sprint at the end of the 140km route in the Potteries as the race got back under way following Monday's cancellation on account of high winds.
ATHLETICS
Usain Bolt ran a season's best 9.85 seconds to win the World Challenge meeting in Zagreb in his first 100 metres since false starting at the World Championships. The Jamaican finished well clear of the field with world bronze medallist Kim Collins second in 10.01secs.
