SWIMMING
Fran Halsall was
content with a silver medal and new British record in the women's
100metres butterfly at the European Championships in Budapest on
Friday night - but has set her sights on gold next time. The
20-year-old from Southport was just edged out by 0.08seconds by
Sweden's Sarah Sjoestroem. Halsall finished in 57.40secs, 0.40s ahead
of another Swede, Therese Alshammar in third.
ATHLETICS
Tyson Gay completed a stunning seven days with the
fastest time in the world this year in the Aviva London Grand Prix at
Crystal Palace. A week after ending Usain Bolt's two-year unbeaten
streak in Stockholm, Gay stormed to victory in the 100 metres despite
the damp conditions, getting a flying start and powering to the line
in 9.78 seconds. |
