EQUESTRIAN
Nick Skelton won an individual bronze medal for Great
Britain on the final day of the FEI Showjumping European
Championships in Madrid. Skelton's efforts on Sunday follow on from
the bronze he helped GB win in the team event on Friday, along with
Ben Maher, John Whitaker and Guy Williams
CYCLING
Mark Cavendish sprinted to victory on the streets of
London as the Tour of Britain came to a close. The Manxman led home
HTC-Highroad team-mate Mark Renshaw in the third one-two finish for
the duo and the second win for Cavendish during the race.
ROWING
Britain's Kathryn Twyman and Andrea Dennis maintained
their recent form to take silver in the lightweight women's double
scull at the European Championships in Bulgaria. The pair won gold in
the lightweight women's quadruple scull at the recent World
Championships in Slovenia and followed that up with a creditable
silver in Plovdiv on Sunday
MOTOR CYCLING
Casey Stoner took another significant step towards his
second MotoGP world title after easing to a crushing victory at the
Aragon Grand Prix in Spain. The Repsol Honda rider was the class of
the field in practice and qualifying and backed up that pace today as
he finished over eight seconds clear of team-mate Dani Pedrosa to
register his eighth win in 14 races this season.
ATHLETICS
Martin Mathathi set a new course record in the men's
race and fellow Kenyan Lucy Kabuu dominated the women's event as
near-perfect conditions led to fast times across the elite events at
the Great North Run. Mathathi took nine seconds off Zersenay Tadese's
2005 record of 59 minutes 5 seconds with a storming run as the Kenyan
pulled away in the second half of the event. |
