CYCLING
Mark Cavendish claimed the men's road race title after
a dramatic sprint finish at the World Championships in Copenhagen and
then set his sights on delivering Olympic gold at London 2012. The
26-year-old produced a trademark burst to cross the line ahead of
Australia's Matt Goss and German Andre Greipel after Team GB's
eight-man line-up had set the pace at the front of the peloton
throughout the 266-kilometre race and then made space for Cavendish
to hit the front when it mattered most.
ATHLETICS
Britain's Paula Radcliffe achieved the Olympic
qualification time after coming third in the Berlin Marathon. The
37-year-old crossed the line in two hours 23 minutes 46 seconds,
behind Kenya's Florence Kiplagat and Irina Mikitenko of Germany.
MOTORCYCLING
John Hopkins and Josh Brookes claimed wins in the
penultimate round of the British Superbike Championship at
Silverstone on Sunday to leave the title race wide open. |
