MOTORCYCLING
Jorge Lorenzo capitalised on a miserable day for his
closest title rivals as he took victory in the Indianapolis MotoGP
race. The Fiat Yamaha rider took his third win of 2009 with his
team-mate Valentino Rossi and Dani Pedrosa both crashing in the
28-lap race at Brickyard. Lorenzo won by 9.5seconds to halve Rossi's
championship lead with five races left to go as the Italian failed to
finish for the first time this year.
HOCKEY
England's men won their first EuroHockey Nations
title, beating world and Olympic champions Germany 5-3 in Amstelveen.
Ashley Jackson and captain Barry Middleton twice had England ahead -
but Christian Zeller's brace squared things - then Jan-Marco Montag
put Germany 3-2 up. However, Richard Mantell scored twice in the
second half to give England the lead - before Jackson's penalty
sealed a famous win.
JUDO Great Britain's Karina Bryant claimed a silver
medal at the World Judo Championships in Rotterdam on Sunday.
The 30-year-old, from Kingston-upon-Thames, lost in
the final to Chinese fighter and defending champion Tong Wen in the
+78kg class after only making the 14-strong British team at the last minute. |
