CYCLING
Acqua & Sapone rider Carlos Betancur battled to a
narrow victory at the Giro dell'Emilia in Bologna on Saturday. The
Colombian jumped clear on the fifth and final climb of San Luca,
eventually crossing the line 24 seconds clear of Bauke Mollema
(Rabobank) who edged Rigoberto Urán (Team Sky) for third.

Michael Laverty kept his faint hopes of taking the MCE
Insurance British Superbike Championship title alive with victory in
the first race at Brands Hatch. The Swan Yamaha rider held off the
challenge of Josh Brookes to take his third win of the campaign ahead
of the final day of the season on Sunday. |
