MODERN PENTATHLON
Great Britain's Heather Fell finished fourth in the
Modern Pentathlon World Cup Final in Rio de Janeiro. Fell was a World
Cup Final silver medallist last year and also claimed silver at the
Olympics in Beijing, but on this occasion she finished six seconds
behind third-placed Leila Gyenesei of Hungary at the end of the
combined run/shoot. She dropped just 20 points in the riding arena
and then posted the third fastest run/shoot but could not make up the
ground she had given up earlier in the competition.
ATHLETICS
Usain Bolt concluded what has been a phenomenal season
with another breathtaking display over his favourite 200 metres
distance at the World Athletics Final in Thessalonika on Sunday. Bolt
said tiredness towards the end of the race, which has prompted him to
call his memorable year to an immediate halt, slowed him, although he
still roared to another fantastic time of 19.68 seconds at the Greek
venue. The performance yet again saw the 23-year-old Jamaican, who
set his second world record of 19.19sec when winning last month's
World Championship title, racing against the clock rather than his
rivals. Murray, representing a Rest of the World team against
Australia and England, again defeated Benita Willis in a competitive
five kilometre encounter.
EQUESTRIAN
Lucy Wiegersma headed a clean sweep of British riders
as she won the Blenheim Palace International Horse Trials in
Oxfordshire. Wiegersma, who heads to France later this month for the
HSBC European Eventing Championships, took top spot on board
Granntevka Prince. |
