Paul Drinkhall, 19, won eight of his 11 matches as a young England team beat Italy 3-1 at the European Championships in Stuttgart to book a place in next year's Championship Division. Danny Reed, 18, also produced an outstanding performance beating highly ranked Stefano Tomasi, one of four wins from his six matches. The teenagers helped clinch England's return to Europe's top division for the first time in 10 years.
ATHLETICS
Kate Dennison raised her British pole vault record to 4.60 metres at the Pedros Cup meeting in Szczecin. Dennison added two centimetres to the performance she achieved at the British Grand Prix in July, and clinched a third-place finish at the Polish venue.
