1993: Liverpool team-mates Bruce Grobbelaar and Steve McManaman were involved in a bust-up during the Merseyside derby defeat at Everton.
1997: Chelsea beat Slovan Bratislava 2-0 at Stamford Bridge in the first round first leg of their successful European Cup Winners' Cup campaign.
1998: Bruce Grobbelaar and Hans Segers were charged by the Football Association with breaching betting regulations. They were later cleared.
2001: UEFA ruled Rangers' UEFA Cup tie against Anzhi Makhachkala would be played as a single match at a neutral venue after military activity in Dagestan and Chechnya.
2003: Sussex won the County Championship for the first time in their history after securing six bonus points in their home game against Leicestershire.
2006: Bryan Robson left his post as West Brom manager by mutual consent

European Championship medalists Carl Hester and Maria Eilberg both won classes on the opening day of this year's National Dressage Championships at Stoneleigh Park. The pair were part of a superb team performance at Windsor last month that saw Great Britain take team silver.
CYCLING
Edvald Boasson Hagen once again gave Team Sky a tantalising glimpse of his capabilities with a fourth successive stage win to enhance his lead in the Tour of Britain standings. The 22-year-old Norwegian - a winner in Gretna Green, Blackpool and Stoke in successive days - added a fourth triumph in the 2009 Tour on the 183.7 kilometre sixth stage from Frome, Somerset to Bideford, north Devon to take a 19-second lead in the overall standings with two stages remaining.
